Bustān – a garden full of life

Bustān means “garden” in Arabic – a name that captures the collection’s lush universe of flowers, leaves, branches and organic shapes.

The garden is a beautiful picture of life, growth and roots. Something is planted, allowed to take root and grows from season to season. In Bustān, this story is translated into ceramics through a dense, hand-painted pattern, where flowers and leaves grow into each other and together form a living whole.

In a Palestinian context, the connection to the land takes on a special resonance. Agriculture, olive groves, fruit trees and gardens have been a part of everyday life for generations, and nature is closely connected to place, family, belonging and tradition. Bustān is our poetic interpretation of this connection.

The flowers can be seen as symbols of life and renewal, while the green leaves and winding branches lead thoughts towards growth, continuity and roots. The many colors give the design a feeling of joy and abundance – like a garden where different shapes and colors are allowed to exist side by side.

Each piece is handmade and hand-painted in Al-Khalil (Hebron) in the West Bank by local Palestinian potters. The patterns are painted freehand, detail by detail, and therefore no two pieces are exactly alike. Small differences in flowers, lines and brushstrokes become part of the story and a visible trace of the person who created the piece.

In this way, Bustān is not just about what is painted on the ceramics. The collection is also about what grows further – the craftsmanship, the traditions and the knowledge that is carried from generation to generation.
